Reflects on Profession of Teaching
Effective teachers maintain a professional demeanor that engages students, but also demands their respect. They also need to be mindful of what they're teaching and why that content matters. On top of that, effective teachers need to be sure that the methods they're using to deliver that instruction are getting through to their students. Perhaps most importantly, teachers are responsible for the safety and well-being of their students.
I've been able to achieve these things, in large part, through reflection.
I'm constantly taking time to think about why I do the things I do as a teacher, and what implications that has for my class as a whole and for individual students. Below are some examples of the reflection I've done on my presence as a teacher, how things are progressing for my students, and what, exactly, the role of "teacher" entails.

Professional Blog
My professional blog is a space that I use to reflect on my teaching. It is my no means all-encompassing. I'm not as good at updating it as I should be, but I try to write in it at least once a month. This blog gives you an idea of the thoughts that race through my mind as I reflect on a wide range of ideas:
- How effective are the strategies I'm using for instruction?
- Are the kids getting it?
- What techniques would be more effective?
- Are the skills I'm teaching lining up with the Common Core?
- How will the kids use what they've learned in my class as they progress though school? What about life after high school?
- Am I fulfilling my responsibilities as a teacher?
